Maycee Kaye Barber aka The Future is an American mixed martial artist(MMA), currently competing in the Flyweight division in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). Barber is ranked #14 on the UFC women’s flyweight rankings. 

Barber started pursuing MMA from an early age and became pro at the age of 19 after winning one amateur fight where she won the fight in 20 seconds and after the fight, joined LFA. Later she got an opportunity to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series.

On Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, on July 17, 2018, Barber fought against Jamie Colleen where she received a UFC contract after earning a stoppage in the third round against Jamie Colleen. On November 10, 2018, Barber made her first UFC debut on UFC Fight Night: Korean Zombie vs. Rodríguez against Hannah Cifers. Barber won the fight by TKO in round two.

On March 23, at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. PettisBarber fought against JJ Aldrich and eventually won the fight via technical knockout in round two. On October 18, 2019, at UFC on ESPN 6, Barber fought and won against Gillian Robertson via technical knockout in round one. Barber lost the fight against Roxanne Modafferi on January 18, 2020, at UFC 246, through a unanimous decision. 

Barber after her recovery from a knee injury faced Alexa Grasso on February 13, 2021, at UFC 258, where she lost the fight via unanimous decision.

Maycee Barber faced two consecutive losses in a row where the flyweight was beaten on the judges’ scorecards. The first loss she faced was in January 2020, against Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246 via a unanimous decision. At UFC 258, she faced Alexa Grasso where she again lost the fight via unanimous decision in the 3rd round. 

To cope up with these losses, Barber will have to pull off something special over the rest of the year to reach her goal of grasping a belt before January 18, 2022. 

UFC President Dana White after UFC 258, told to reporters that he still believes in Barber and she has the potential to do big things in his organization.

I know she put this unbelievable pressure on herself to be a champion before Jon Jones, and it’s good to set goals for yourself,”. He continued. “But she’s a baby, she’s got nothing but time, and she’s only going to get better.” 

Prior to her losses, Barber was 8-0 with four straight TKO wins inside of the Octagon.
