Susan Rice is Biden’s select as the Domestic Policy Advisor
Earlier this year, AP News stated that Joe Biden was considering Rice as his Vice Presidential running mate for the 2020 elections. However, Kamala Harris became the running mate. In September 2020, it was announced that Rice would be a member of the Biden-Harris Transition Team, the team that would be responsible for the presidential transition of Biden in January.
On 10th December 2020, Biden selected Rice to be the Domestic Policy Advisor for the White House, as part of his continuous appointments to develop his administration. Rice had also served Barack Obama as the National Security Advisor. This selection means Rice would work alongside other presidential advisors such as Leon Panetta and James Baker, working in both foreign and domestic roles.
However, the selection of Rice has come as a shock for the administration as she has more experience in foreign policy over domestic policy. It is an unexpected role for Rice as reports suggested she would find a position in Biden’s Cabinet. Rice has a long-standing friendship with Biden and values her personal relationships, stating him and his wife, Jill are her “favourite unannounced visitor”.
