The Ski Racer May Miss the World Championships
At Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbuehel, Austria, Cochran-Siegle faced a neck injury in a Friday race crash, what he called “a minor broken neck”. Cochran-Siegle said on Saturday that he doesn’t know that whether he will be able to race at super-G and downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
In an interview on Saturday with ORF, he said, “I’m guessing that’s kind of pushing it, but I do hope to be back by the end of the season,”.
He finds himself lucky, to not suffer more serious injury in his Friday crash.
“I’m really not in pain,” he said. “It’s just my neck that is going to require some time to heal.”
Cochran-Siegle decides to fly back to the US on Monday to continue with his further treatments.
The Alpine Ski Racer’s Formative Years
Cochran-Siegle was born on the 27th of March in year 1992 in Burlington, Vermont, U.S. His mother Barbara Cochran, a gold medalist in the slalom at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan taught him to ski at the age of two. He joined the US Development Team after the 2010 season and a year later he was promoted to the National B Team. In 2011, Cochran-Siegle was a Nor-Am Cup super-G champion and won a bronze medal in the super-G at the U.S. national championships. Cochran-Siegle was the winner of the Nor-Am downhill and super-G titles in 2012.
He was the gold medalist at the Junior World Championships, in downhill and combined.
During the downhill portion of the combined at the World Championships in 2013, he suffered injuries to his anterior crcuiate and medial collateral ligaments. However, he made his comeback in the 2014 season and won the overall Nor-Am Cup.
He was also a member of the U.S. Olympic team, competing in four events. His best finish was eleventh in the giant slalom.
