Rick Ross is also known as William Leonard Roberts II is a famous rapper, author, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur.

He was born on 28th of January, 1976 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Even though he was born in Mississippi, he was brought up in Carol City, Florida. He attended Miami Carol City Senior High School and also attended the Albany State University of Georgia-A Historic Black College, on a football scholarship.

Right since his teen years, he was passionate about hip-hop and rapping. He was inspired by rappers like Ice Cube, Luther Campbell, Notorious BIG, and Tupac Shakur.

A career in Rap and struggles due to his past jobs

From December of 1995 to June of 1997, he worked as a corrections officer and then quit his job to pursue a career in music. At first, his past job was not known to the public as he thought that it would prove to be problematic for his career.

In 2006, he released his debut single, ‘Hustlin’ and then he signed with Jay-Z’s Def Jam Recordings. His first two albums ‘Port of Miami’ and ‘Trilla’ got him on Billboard Chart and he got popularity as a Rapper. In 2009, after founding his own label, he released Deeper Than Rap (2009), Teflon Don (2010), God Forgives, I Don’t (2012), Mastermind, Hood Billionaire (2014), Black Market (2015), and Rather You Than Me (2017).

MTV also named Rick Ross as the Hottest MC in the Game and also became the first artist to get signed to Diddy’s management company Ciroc Entertainment.

Controversies surrounding Rick Ross

Rick Ross was constantly in the news for all the wrong reasons throughout his career. Right from getting arrested for his past jobs or being the victim of the shooting, 2008 was a hard year for this 44-year-old rapper.

In July 2008, his photos as Correctional Officer got leaked. At first, he denied that it was him in the pictures but after the public got more proof he admitted that he worked as a Correctional Officer. In the same year, he was arrested for keeping possession of a gun and marijuana with an intent to sell. In the very same year, DJ Vlad filed a suit for harassment and battery against Rick Ross.

In 2010, he got sued for copyright infringement. Then in the next year, he again got sued by Teflon Don due to trademark infringement. In 2013, He and his girlfriend were the victims of a shooting while Ross was celebrating his 37th birthday. Fortunately, no one was hurt. In 2015, he was arrested a second time on charges of assault and the kidnapping of a land keeper.

He is a firm believer of God and has admitted that he prays every time he goes on the stage to perform. He is a father of four children, namely; Toie Roberts, William Roberts III, Berkeley Hermes Roberts, and Billion Leonard Roberts. He was in a relationship with Shateria Montagne-el but separated in 2013, then was engaged to Lira ‘Galore’ Mercer but it didn’t last very long either.
