The year was 2014 when Bobby Shmurda, along with members of his ‘East Flatbush gang’ called GS9 were arrested on a number of charges including conspiracy, drugs, possession of illegal firearms, attempted assault, and murder.

Brooklyn-based rapper Rowdy Rebel was also arrested along with Shmurda and the 13 other gang members. In their indictment, the prosecution labeled them as a criminal street gang always getting mixed up into ‘turf-fights’.

However, after spending nearly six years behind the par, Rowdy has finally been released from prison. The 29-year-old rapper was sent to the Rikers Island jail. The Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel Controversy

At the time of his hearing, Rebel was sentenced to six-seven years of jail time. The state claimed that Shmurda, Rebel, Nicholas McCoy, and their gang members frequently engaged in a ‘protracted turf battle with multiple rivals’.

A prosecutor from New York’s narcotics department was also present at the case hearing and added that Rowdy was in the ownership of a loaded ‘9mm pistol near Quad Recording Studios, near Times Square.

On the other hand, Shmurda’s plea for parole was denied earlier in September. However, in 2016 Shmurda revealed that he was sentenced to 5 years in prison while Rebel was sentenced to 12 years, which is why he accepted a plea deal to spend seven years so that the two of them can spend the same amount of time in jail.
