In the 2020 election, Jaime Harrison contested the election for the U.S senate for South Carolina. He was put against the republican party member, Lindsey Graham, and an independent candidate Bill Bledsoe. However, Jaime Harrison lost the election to Lindsey Graham 44.2%- 54.5%

He was a political science major at Yale university and after graduating in 1998, Jaime Harrison was a teacher at the school he studied for one year and in 1999 became the COO of a non-profit organization that helps give low-income youths a path to colleges called College Summit. He also attained a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center in the year 2004

Jaime Harrison also has a good friendship with rival party member Matt Moore, who was the chairman of the South Carolina Republic Party as the two co-taught during the fall semester in 2015 at the University of South Carolina.

After leaving his job at the college summit. Jaime Harrison worked as a director of floor operations for Jim Clyburn who was the majority whip of the United States House of representatives. He also was the executive director of the house of the democratic caucus.

In the year 2013 in May, Jaime Harrison was the chair for the South Carolina Democratic Party and became the first African-American to do so.

In the 2020 elections for the U.S senate. Both Jaime Harrison and Graham faced off in a debate at Allen University on the 3rd of October. During the third quarter of the 2020 elections, Jaime Harrison went on to break records by raising $57 million which was the largest amount ever raised by a U.S senate candidate. the record broke the 2018 bar set by Beto O’Rourke in the Texas election. Jaime Harrison is also a staunch supporter of the fact that marijuana should be legalized.
