The COVID-19 pandemics don’t seem to be easing out. In fact, the cases are still on the rise. Like many other states and cities, the state of Michigan also saw a surge in the corona virus-related cases over the last week.
As a result, Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer announced further statewide restrictions in order to try and bring the Corona outbreak under control. As per the new restrictions, indoor gatherings and group activities have been limited for three weeks.
But Governor Whitmer’s announcement was criticized by White House coronavirus adviser Dr. Scott Atlas who called for people to “rise up” and liberate themselves.
This prompted the 49-year-old Democrat from Michigan to respond by saying she will not allow the Trump administration to bully her. She told CNN,
“I’m not going to be bullied into not following reputable scientists and medical professionals.”
Gretchen Whitmer Net Worth is estimated at $500k to $650k
Gretchen Whitmer is one of the most popular Democrat leaders today. She is known for being loyal to her people.
Whitmer disclosed her when financials she announced her candidature for the Governor race in 2017. She reported an adjusted gross income of $150,499.
With her appointment as the Governor of Michigan, Whitmer would have an annual salary somewhere in the range of $150,000 to $175,000.
Keep these factors in mind, Gretchen Whitmer’s net worth can be estimated to be somewhat around $500,000 to $650,000.
Facing Backlash for her COVID-19 Restrictions
Whitmer announced a new order limiting social gathering by shutting down places like restaurants, movie theatres, schools, and bars. This decision was made after Michigan state officials said the rise in the number of corona cases could lead to about 1000 deaths a week.
But then a tweet from Dr. Scott Atlas, a top Trump administration official, gave way to a whole new controversy. He tweeted :
“The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept.”
The tweet soon received backlash as it seemed to have the potential to incite violence in people in these troubling times.
Atlas comments added fuel to a lingering fire between the Trump administration and Whitmer. After all a few months back the FBI busted a group of far-right militiamen who planned on kidnapping Whitmer.
Whitmer herself is aware of the Trump administration’s continuous efforts to hinder her work as a Governor. She told CNN that she would not be bullied by such menial threats. She said :
“We know the White House likes to single us out here in Michigan, me out in particular. I listen to people that actually have actually studied and are well-respected worldwide on these issues.”
