The 2020 Elections have been a mixed bag of hope and dreams. At the very least it’s instilled in them the notion that America’s future is going to be quite progressive.
With Kamala Harris being elected as the first woman Vice President, her better half Doug Emhoff will be the first ‘Second Gentleman’ in history. Doug who is an entertainment lawyer by profession took a leave of absence from work to participate in Harris’s campaign trail.
Even the president-elect Joe Biden spoke of Doug’s position as that of something that has the potential to be a “barrier breaker” for America. This also marks the first mixed-race couple presiding over these positions.
Doug Emhoff Net Worth is around $5 million
Emhoff is a litigator and partner at DLA Law Firm. He works out of both California and D.C. offices of the firm and specializes in entertainment and intellectual property law.
According to the financial disclosure filed by Kamala Harris, Kamala and Douglas had a combined income of $1.89 million. Of that $1.89 million, about $157,000 was Harris’s senate salary and an estimated income of $320,000 came from royalties of sales from her memoir “The Truths We Hold”.
But the remaining $1.4 million was Emhoff’s income from his partnership at DLA. Doug and Kamala have few real estate assets to their name as well. Together the couple owns 3 homes with a combined value of about $8 million.
The couple has $2.5 to $6 million worth of assets to their name. This when balanced with $3 million worth of liabilities, brings Douglas Emhoff’s net worth to around $5 million.
The First ‘Second Husband’ of America
Douglas Emhoff is indeed a devoted husband. More than anything else Doug and Harris seem to be really in love with each other. In ways, they are the ideal 21st-century couple who support each other unconditionally.
In an interview to Marie Claire, Doug said :
“Imagine working from home with Kamala Harris, during a pandemic and all the other issues going on. She just works hard, and she’s relentless.…It’s just incredible how much she does.”
Harris too reciprocated Doug’s feelings. She too had some adorable words for her husband. She said, in an interview to NowThis :
“I love my husband. He is funny. He is kind. He is patient. He loves my cooking. He’s just a really great guy.”
The power couple is not only an inspiration to people of all color and races but they have also opened the doors to more progressive America, at least culturally.
For a long time, the spouses of presidents and vice presidents have been women, since there’s never been a woman president or vice president, until now.
Doug will the first ‘Second Husband/Gentleman’ of America. When asked how he is feeling, Doug said :
“I think it would be an incredible honour… I’m going to hopefully work on things like access to justice and access to opportunity and access to the American dream.”
