Even though its finale might have overplayed its hand, Season 3 of Ozark was another satisfying entry in the series. You had Jonah using a drone to peep on Ellie Pierce and catch a rival cartel murdering a band of mobsters with the same amount of enthusiasm, Wendy sharing Burger King with her brother hours before ordering his execution, and Ruth calling Wendy a bitch wolf. Classic.
There’s no easy way out for the money-laundering Byrde family in Ozark. The Netflix crime thriller about a Chicago family forced to move to the Ozarks to launder money for a Mexican cartel is one of the streaming service’s best originals. And the show, which stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, reached new heights in 2020 with its better than ever third season.
While it took almost a year and a half for the show to follow up on its second instalment, considering all of the jaw-dropping moments and that final blood-shed shot of the season, fans are already clamouring for more.
Will there be another series of Ozark?
Netflix has confirmed Ozark has been given the green light for season four. However, season four will be the last outing for the show which means Ozark has been cancelled.
In another twist, Netflix has given the series a 14-episode order, which will see the last outing split in two. Previously, few fans were worried it may have been cancelled after not hearing anything for a while.
Season 3 came out on March 27, 2020, with fans waiting on tenterhooks for any news. The third outing of Ozark got the green light in October 2018 after coming out in August.
When will Ozark Season 4 be released?
Unfortunately, Netflix didn’t say when we’ll get the final season. It’ll probably premiere in 2021 at the earliest, although Ozark star Jason Bateman says it’ll be worth the wait.
“We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving Ozark more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right,” Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
Who’s in the cast?
If you’ve watched Season 3 of Ozark, you know that one of the most powerful performances was delivered by a character we’d never met before now. While it’s unclear if Ozark will try to make good on that fresh talent strategy, we can definitely expect to see our series regulars returning in Season 4.
That includes, but is not limited to, the likes of Bateman, Linney, and Garner, as well as the Byrde kids (Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde and Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Byrde) and the rest of the Langmore crew (Charlie Tahan as Wyatt Langmore) and Lisa Emery as Darlene Snell. And, of course, Felix Solis as the terrifying drug lord, Omar Navarro.
What will Ozark Season 4 be about?
You may remember that right after cartel leader Omar Navarro shot and killed Helen as soon as she and the Byrdes arrived at his home in Mexico, he devilishly said, “This is beginning.”
In speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Chris Mundy explained exactly what that “beginning” is. He said, Marty kind of said it in the speech that he gives to try and get Wendy out of bed, which is that we have to burrow all the way into the centre of this thing.
Ozark wouldn’t be Ozark if the entire Ozarks weren’t gunning after Marty and Wendy as they try to launder their money in peace. At the end of Season Three, Darlene Snell’s plays Nick Fury and puts together the Ozark Avengers, and recruits the Longmores and the Kansas City mob to build back up her humble drug-making and distributing business. According to some source, Mundy talked about “If we’re lucky enough to get a Season 4, I think it will be about whether or not Ruth really can create something of her own that she wants and is sustainable, or if she wants something else”.
