Delonte West is an American erstwhile professional basketball player. He played in the NBA league for, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and Dallas Mavericks. Before playing professionally, West played college basketball at Saint Joseph’s University. He played professionally for the teams of the Chinese Basketball Association namely, Fujian Xunxing and Shanghai Sharks. He also played for the Texas Legends of the NBA G League.
Delonte attended the Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where he played basketball, teaming up with Eddie Basden, a fellow future NBA player. He directed the Raiders to their first state tournament appearance and made it to the Maryland 4A championship, where West had 22 points and 8 rebounds. But they lost 70-58.
He was titled Washington Post All-Met Basketball Player of the Year because of his averages of 20.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.1 steals per game. West played college football at Saint Joseph’s University, where he averaged 18.9 points and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 41% from three-point range. After leaving St. Joseph’s, he was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 24th pick in the 2004 NBA draft. In the first season, he played a total of only 39 matches, due to his injuries. There he averaged 4.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He played at the position of a point guard at the beginning of the 2005–06 season. He was later moved to the shooting guard position in the 2006–07 season.
