The American Senator recently on Friday 8 January showed firm opposition to provide $2000 direct payments. This step of his jeopardized priorities of the Democratic Party when it takes unified control of the White House and Congress and President-elect Joe Biden. “Absolutely not. No,” Manchin told The Washington Post in an interview published Friday. “Getting people vaccinated, that’s job No. 1.” He added “How is the money that we invest now going to help us best to get jobs back and get people employed? And I can’t tell you that sending another check out is gonna do that to a person that’s already got a check,”.

The very next day on Jan 9 Joe tweeted saying “if a new round of checks go out, they should be targeted to ensure they go to those in need.” This was viewed as a much-needed clarification on his part.

Manchin, known to be the most conservative Democrat in the Senate, challenged the cost of the proposal. The neutral Joint Committee on Taxation previously said increasing the payments in the aid law passed last month to $2,000 from $600 would cost $463 billion

His viewpoint puts forward questions about what sort of direct security plan could get through the Senate once Democrats hold a razor-thin majority. The party will have control of a 50-50 depends through Kamala Harris the Vice President-elect’s tie-breaking vote in the coming weeks, after the inauguration on Jan. 20 and the swearing-in of Democratic Senators-elect Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff from Georgia. Now, it all lies on Manchin’s vote for the Democrats to pass the coronavirus relief legislation.
