Facing Backlash for her COVID-19 Restrictions

Whitmer announced a new order limiting social gathering by shutting down places like restaurants, movie theatres, schools, and bars. This decision was made after Michigan state officials said the rise in the number of corona cases could lead to about 1000 deaths a week.

But then a tweet from Dr. Scott Atlas, a top Trump administration official, gave way to a whole new controversy. He tweeted :

“The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept.”

The tweet soon received backlash as it seemed to have the potential to incite violence in people in these troubling times.

Atlas comments added fuel to a lingering fire between the Trump administration and Whitmer. After all a few months back the FBI busted a group of far-right militiamen who planned on kidnapping Whitmer.

Whitmer herself is aware of the Trump administration’s continuous efforts to hinder her work as a Governor. She told CNN that she would not be bullied by such menial threats. She said :

“We know the White House likes to single us out here in Michigan, me out in particular. I listen to people that actually have actually studied and are well-respected worldwide on these issues.”
