Not every day does one get to witness legends making history. Professional golfer Dustin Johnson did something similar when he grabbed his first-ever ‘Masters’ title with a record-breaking score of 20-under 268.
The 36-year-old golfer is the first top-ranking golfer to win the title since 2002. The previous World No. 1 to win the Masters and don the green jacket was Tiger Woods. This marks Johnson’s second major title victory, the previous being the 2016 U.S. Open.
Johnson, who was honored with the green jacket by the defending champion Tiger Woods, broke down in tears. Though the American golfer is known for keeping to himself and speaking much, a teary Johnson said,
“It’s a dream come true. As a kid, I always wanted to become a Masters champion. It’s just incredible.”
The American golfer’s race to a Masters victory was followed by South Koreas’ Im Sung-jae and Australia’s Cameron Smith for a tie at second place.

First-ever Masters title – A Dream Come True
Johnson really went down in history as he won his first-ever Masters title. Things were a little shaky for the American golfer at the start but he soon overcame that and finished with a five-stroke victory.
With his earth-shattering 20-under 268, Johnson broke the previous Masters tournament best of 18-under by Tiger Woods in 1997 and Jordan Speith in 2015. Johnson shot a closing 68 and made a record low four bogeys in 72 holes as he played the final 13 holes bogey-free.
What seems to have worked for Johnson is his swing, an unusual swung though. In his swing, Johnson’s left wrist rather than being hinged is bowed at the top of the backswing. His coach Claude Harmon spoke of Johnson’s refined gamed to a bunch of reporters. Harmon said,
“Now I think Dustin is the most complete player in the game”
When Johnson shed a tear during the post game interview, even one got to see a side of the golfer that he isn’t really known for. He put aside monotonous speaking mannerism and casual attitude and with tears in his eyes, Johnson said :
“I proved to myself that I do have it, because I’m sure a lot of y’all think that, or even I, there were doubts in my mind, just because I had been there”
