Born on November 6th in the year 1969, Arch Colson Chipp Whitehead is an American novelist. Colson is the author of the seven novels and two non-fiction books which include, The Intuitionist (1999), John Henry Days (2001), The Colossus of New York (2003), Apex Hides the Hurt (2006), Sag Harbor (2009), Zone One (2011) a New York Times Bestseller, The Underground Railroad (2016), for which he won the 2016 National Book Award for Fiction and the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Colson again won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2020 for The Nickel Boys (2019).
Colson received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2002. He has also published articles in Granta Harper’s, The New York Time, and The New Yorker.
Whitehead’s “The Intuitionist” was named the best first novel of the year by Esquire magazine. GQ called it one among the “novels of the millennium“.

Colson Whitehead is one of four children of successful entrepreneur parents who owned an executive recruiting firm. He was born in New York to his parents Arch and Mary Anne Whitehead. He grew up in Manhattan and attended the elite prep Trinity School and graduated from Harvard University in 1991. After graduating he started working at The Village Voice where he wrote reviews about books, music and television. During his time at the Voice he met Natasha Stovall, whom he married in 2000. Eventually, Colson divorced Natasha when he committed to write Poker series. From his first marriage he has a daughter named Madeline Whitehead,18.
