Charlie Morton Net Worth as the Atlanta Braves sign him for $15 Million

It has surely been a “Happy Thanksgiving” for Major League Baseball fans. Especially for fans and supporters of Atlanta Braves, who now have two of the best ‘Pitchers’ in the game.

Charlie Morton is the second veteran starter to join the squad of the Atlanta Braves in the last few weeks. The Braves announced on Tuesday that they had signed the right-hand pitcher for $15 Million for a one year contract with the team, which means that Morton will once again play for Braves, the team he made his MLB debut with back in 2008.

While this sets a really good Thanksgiving vibe both for Morton and the Braves, it certainly is a pinching feeling for the Tampa Bay Rays and their supporters. The Rays could’ve retained the 37-year-old veteran pitcher had they agreed to exercise a club option. It’s not that Rays didn’t want to re-sign Morton, they were just unwilling to match Atlanta’s offer of $15 Million.

What is Charlie Morton’s Net Worth?

During a 12 year long MLB career, Morton has amassed a significant wealth to his name. As of 2020, Charlie Morton’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere in the range of $15 Million to $20 Million.

Charlie Morton has been in the game long enough to be called a Veteran now. Ever since Morton was drafted in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft, the veteran pitcher has played for several MLB teams including Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies Houston Astros.

Though after the $15 million contracts with the Atlanta Braves, his net worth is expected to see a significant rise.

Braves add more depth to their rotation as they sign Morton

Post a great World Series season, the Atlanta Braves surely look like they want to build on their success. A rotation that was already strengthened when the Braves signed Drew Smyly, only got stronger with Morton’s signing. The left-handed pitcher Smyly, like Morton got a one-year deal but for $11 Million.

It’s evident that ever since his appointment as General Manager of the Atlanta Braves, Alex Anthopoulos in on a mission that involves acting quickly to address a clear need.

Investing a total of $26 Million for two pitchers at such an early stage clearly shows Alex’s and Braves’ intent on dominating the 2021 season. Alex further explained the decision,

“We had an extremely short list of [starting pitchers] we would consider, basically two to three. And obviously we got two. These were the two guys that were at the top of our list, Charlie and Drew.”

The Braves supporters couldn’t be happier. This signing rejoins Morton with the team he started his Baseball career in 2002. According to ESPN, apart from the $15 Million, Morton’s contract has no incentives or no-trade clauses in deal.
