Antonio Jose Carneiro is a Brazilian businessman who has a net worth of $1.2 billion. The bulk of his wealth comes from his interest in Energisa, a publicly-traded company that controls 10.5% of the electricity distribution in Brazil’s Northeast region. Having made his beginnings in banking, Carneiro eventually got into the electricity business. It was approximately seven years ago when he bought a share in Brazilian electricity distributor Cataguazes Leopoldina at a bargain price on the loss of U.S. institutional investor Alliant that sold his stake for peanuts.
Antonio Jose Carneiro is also the Chairman of Joao Fortes Engenharia, Rio de Janeiro-based real estate construction and sales company. Reportedly, he enjoys in riding horses and watching soccer.
