The holiday season is here. And though it’s not gonna be as lively as the ones before, we ought to make the most of it. For the ongoing COVID pandemic will now shadow everyone’s Christmas spirit.
In these tough times, everyone is trying to make the most out of it. Pandemic or not, Christmas is a period of joy, love, and sharing. Making their contribution to preserving the spirit of Christmas, NBC released its adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s classic Christmas tale and lifted the curtain on “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical”.
Starring in the titular role of the mean-green holiday hating cat was none other than the ‘Glee’ actor, Matthew Morrison. The 42-year actor’s performance had familiar moments of comedy and crankiness that fans have come to expect from the character, there were also moments that left the audience uncomfortable.
Matthew Morrison’s Net Worth is in $10 Million
The California-born actor primarily worked as a broadway actor before venturing into shows and movies. According to celebritynetworth.com, Matthew Morrison has a net worth of a little over $10 Million.
The 42-year-old actor is most popularly known for starring on the FOX Musical comedy show “Glee”. A number of different sources report that Matthew was paid close to $80,000 for an episode.
The Grinch Musical: A Miserable Watch
Morrison had to undergo an intense prosthetic makeup routine to transform into the gift, food, and tree stealing Grinch. Though the sum of all his efforts was still disappointing because of the cringe-fest that the 2 hour NBC musical was.
The Glee star’s version of ‘The Grinch’ was unique in its own way, as he tried to come out something different from Jim Carrey’s version of the character. Though one simply cannot overlook the fact that his fourth-wall-breaking moments during the musical’s first hour made everyone extremely uncomfortable.
“At first, I was like ‘I don’t think the Grinch dances’; it didn’t feel very Grinch-y, but then I came up with that and it felt right.”
The musical was staged, performed, and shot at the Troubadour Theater in London. The entire presentation was very vibrant and colorful keeping the spirit of Christmas in mind. The songs, though, were not all memorable or catchy, excluding the few that were carried over from the original animated classic.
However, in its entirety, the musical show felt completely flat. It was primarily aimed to cater to the younger audience and hoped that the parents would join their younglings to share the experience.
Matthew Morrison took inspiration from “Joker”
In a recent interview, the Morrison talked about the Christmas special and his preparations for the playing this version of the Grinch.
The actor further explained how he wanted to distance his version of the green happiness stealing cat, but not indulging in the traditional style of dancing. In fact, he based the style of dance on Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Joker. In an interview to EW, the actor said,
“I didn’t want the Grinch to be a good dancer. I took a lot from Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in Joker, just going down those steps, like loose and revelling in abandon, and just carefree and raw.”
