The Legacy that Prowse has left behind

The news of David Prowse’s death has left fans around the world a little more broken in what has already been a disappointing year. Even though Darth Vader was voiced by James Earl Jones, Prowse was showered with the same amount of love.

According to his agent Thomas Bovington, Prowse passed away after a brief illness. He said,

“A truly and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans all over the world.”

Prowse started out in Hollywood as a trainer for Christopher Reeves to help him prepare for the role of SupermanHe was spotted by George Lucas in “The Clockwork Orange” in which Prowse played a bodyguard. Lucas soon invited Prowse to audition for the roles of both Darth Vader and Chewbacca in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. But Prowse chose Vader over Chewbacca. In an interview with BBC, he explained his decision, he said,

“You always remember the bad guys.”

In his statement, Prowse’s agent Bowington also said,

“Though famous for playing many monsters – for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives.”
